Fulbright fellowship on integrated solid waste management in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

I completed a Fulbright fellowship from the U.S. State Department to work with the Horn of Africa Regional Environmental Center and the Addis Ababa City Administration’s Solid Waste Recycling and Disposal Project Office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  I managed the technical oversight of the installation of a landfill gas extraction system on Addis Ababa’s largest landfill (population 3.2 million), Repi, including the process of carbon offset accreditation through Clean Development Mechanism with the United Nations Development Programme.  My responsibilities included local stakeholder consultation, contract preparation, site supervision, procurement, document preparation, emissions calculations, and project coordination.  Timeline of the project activitiesUNDP article and video on the Repi landfill project.
